Not Forsaking the Assembling of Ourselves Together? #11

Friday, May 3, 2024

“Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching” (Hebrews 10:25 KJV).

Does today’s Scripture render church attendance obligatory?

How extremely (extremely!) critical it is to our Bible understanding that we do not isolate verses from their context… and this includes today’s Scripture. To lift verses out of their dispensational setting is to go the way Christendom has for centuries upon centuries upon centuries—tens of thousands of denominations, cults, and sects all “picking and choosing” which Scriptures to “name and claim” and which to let alone and wish did not exist. Had they been mindful of contexts, there would have been far more discretion, far more maturity, and far less corruption and far less confusion.

While many take immense pleasure in appealing to today’s Scripture because it agrees with their theological system (and such mandatory church attendance is sure to generate funding for their denomination!), they tend to ignore verses 26-31 (the context) because the context is at variance with what their theological system promotes. The fact of the matter is that the Book of Hebrews applies to no one alive today. It is prophetic and Israeli, whereas we are in mystery and the Church the Body of Christ.

Like with God calling people to get on the Ark in Noah’s day, so the Holy Spirit through the writer of Hebrews (today’s Scripture) calls unbelieving Jews to place their faith in Jesus Christ and thereby join or assemble with the Little Flock (believing Israel) so as to survive the wrath to come (Matthew 24:36-41; Luke 17:24-37; Hebrews 11:7; 1 Peter 3:20,21; 2 Peter 2:5; 2 Peter 3:5-7). Carefully note the wrath meted on unbelieving Israel in Hebrews 10:30,31—the wrath connected to the “day” of Christ’s Second Coming in verse 25, the wrath to fall on Jews who have not entered the “ark” of the Little Flock.

Someone will surely inquire, “If Hebrews 10:25 is for Israel and not for us, what about our church attendance? Should we go to church?” In order to answer this question, we must painstakingly lay out some clarifications….

The Awareness of a Temporary Earth

Monday, April 22, 2024

“And, Thou, O Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands: they shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment; and as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail” (Hebrews 1:10-12 KJV).

On this Earth Day, let us not confuse the creation with the Creator!

Today, people worldwide celebrate “environmental awareness.” According to the secular, naturalistic worldview, our planet and its sun could last many more billions of years. They claim that we have done so much damage to our planet—climate change, overpopulation, deforestation, pollution, et cetera—that we must change our attitude toward “mother earth” and change our lifestyles before we destroy her and civilization as we know it! You can sense the zeal in their message, can you not? While these people are sincere, they are wasting all of their time, energy, and resources on a temporary planet.

Let us be very clear that the Lord Jesus Christ placed man on the earth, especially the Garden of Eden, to “dress it and keep it” (Genesis 2:15). Adam was to take care of the Earth: he was God’s representative, God’s king, who had a divine commission to rule this planet for God’s glory (Genesis 1:26-28).

It was not long, however, before Satan distracted mankind from understanding God’s purpose for him. Adam began to focus on himself: like Satan, he began to “worship and serve the creature more than the Creator” (Romans 1:25). Thus began man’s continual downward spiral into spiritual ignorance. He would continually worship himself, as we well know today.

Today’s Scripture reminds us that, because of sin, this creation will pass away. The Lord Jesus Christ, however, will live forever. Why worship that which is temporary? It makes no sense! The Lord Jesus Christ gave you life, not the pagan goddess “mother earth.” Environmental awareness? Indeed, be aware that our world is temporary, as God will one day create “a new heaven and a new earth” (Revelation 21:1).

The LORD Seeth Not? #2

Wednesday, April 10, 2024

“Then said he unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen what the ancients of the house of Israel do in the dark, every man in the chambers of his imagery? for they say, the LORD seeth us not; the LORD hath forsaken the earth” (Ezekiel 8:12 KJV).

Is it valid to say, “The LORD seeth us not?” and “The LORD hath forsaken the earth?”

Read Genesis 3:9-13. Human nature is to blame someone else. When Adam was asked if he committed wrongdoing, he accused God of giving him “the woman!” When Eve was questioned if she did wrong, she accused Satan! There was no personal accountability in Eden… and there is still none on Earth. To this day, excuses are either “God made me this way” or “The Devil made me do it!”

Firstly (mark it well!), the LORD God did not create robots or machines, people who automatically follow His will and do right. If He did, the cry would surely be heard, “God is such a tyrant for not letting me do or believe what I want!” Therefore, He gave us liberty to choose right or choose wrong. If we choose wrong, then we portray the situation as follows: “I did nothing wrong, so it is God’s fault for letting me face the consequences of my poor choices.”

Secondly (and we dare not forget this either!), JEHOVAH God did not leave Himself without witness (Acts 14:15-17; Acts 17:24-31; Romans 1:18-25; Romans 2:14,15). If we choose right, we realize Bibles are everywhere: we do have access to the Word of God and can know the will of God. We recognize the fact everyone has some sense of right and wrong (conscience). Even the most primitive cultures in the most remote regions have a code of conduct. The very existence of a creation demands a Creator—so if we question if God is there, we are only showing we have not been honest with the evidence. If we are grateful for the light we have, responding positively to the evidence we can identify, God will give us more light and we will see more evidence. If we are unthankful for what evidence we have, however, our vulnerability to a darkened heart is guaranteed (Romans 1:19-32).

We must ultimately bear responsibility for ourselves….

#Eclipse2024

Monday, April 8, 2024

“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork” (Psalm 19:1 KJV).

Today—weather permitting, of course!—a total solar eclipse will be visible here in North America (Canada, United States, and Mexico)!

As someone who has been interested in science ever since his junior-high school days over 20 years ago—and even graduated university with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in geology (Earth science)—I think it only appropriate to dedicate one devotional to this unique celestial phenomenon. We as Bible believers can study the natural world through the eyes of faith, and have a much greater appreciation of its beauty and functionality than those who prefer to be “non-religious.”

In a spectacular display of literally astronomical proportions, today, the Moon will pass between the Earth and the Sun in a special way. The Moon will temporarily cover the Sun, the Moon’s shadow casting upon our continent a brief “nighttime” followed by a return of daylight. As long as we use special equipment (uniquely designed eyeglasses or lenses), or watch a livestream video of it, we can safely observe one of these wonders of the LORD God’s natural world. The next event like this that will be seen from our geographical position is scheduled for 2044, so be sure to take advantage of today’s opportunity… if possible!

The mathematical precision necessary for the occurrence of a solar eclipse—or even lunar eclipse (Earth’s shadow thrown onto the Moon)—is mindboggling. Angles, sizes, and distances must be just right; hence, these events are quite rare. Our Creator designed these heavenly bodies with incomprehensible skill, and, even in their fallen state, the systems of our natural world and their respective movements are truly stunning.

“For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened” (Romans 1:20,21). By the way, let us be sure to walk in the spiritual light we have, lest come to pass a more severe (and eternal) eclipse than that of the Sun—the darkening of our foolish heart!

No Corrupt Communication #19

Wednesday, March 20, 2024

“Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers” (Ephesians 4:29 KJV).

What is this “corrupt communication?”

As Bible believers, we recognize a chief malevolent (evil) spirit exists: Satan is not merely an idea, but a spirit-being just as real as God is. “Satan” (Hebrew) means “adversary.” (See it translated “adversary/adversaries” in Numbers 22:22; 1 Samuel 29:4; 2 Samuel 19:22; 1 Kings 5:5; 1 Kings 11:14,23,25. It is rendered “withstand” in Numbers 22:32.)

The first time Satan appears in Scripture is Genesis chapter 3: “[1] Now the serpent was more subtil [sneaky, underhanded] than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? [2] And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: [3] But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. [4] And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: [5] For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.”

In Genesis 3:1, Satan opened by questioning God’s words—“Did God really say this…?” Eve was too confused to know the truth, so she accepted his “enlightenment!” Read God’s original words in Genesis 2:16,17: “And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” However, in Genesis chapter 3, Eve omitted “freely” from God’s words, added “neither shall ye touch it” to God’s words, and watered down “thou shalt surely die” to become “lest ye die.” Only then did Satan finally deny God’s words altogether: “Ye shall not surely die….”

Satan’s evil world system and its participants, boasting “scholarship” and “expertise,” still incite us to treat God’s words so shamefully, disrespectfully, corruptly….

A Family Enterprise #7

The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger (Jeremiah 7:18 KJV).

What is their family enterprise? (It is devil worship!)

“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6). This verse is non-negotiable, not open for debate or discussion. It says exactly what it means, and it means exactly what it says. Furthermore, we already know it is primarily the father’s responsibility to teach his children the Holy Scriptures. Alas, parents have a tendency to pass their duties onto others. Teachers, coaches, preachers, Sunday School teachers, psychologists, professors, and babysitters are expected to take care of the spiritual needs of these precious children—and even most of these leaders are far too ill-equipped or totally unequipped in sound Bible doctrine themselves (how can they guide others when they themselves must first be taught the basics?).

Our family enterprise as Bible believers is storing sound Bible doctrine in the younger generations. As English-speaking people, this is being educated in the King James Bible rightly divided. No matter what “CULTure” dictates or encourages, there are absolutes—a stark difference between right and wrong. Therefore, we need to endeavor to know, understand, trust, and teach the Holy Bible dispensationally, especially the Books of Romans to Philemon. The Lord Jesus Christ’s life in us is the key to overcoming all this world’s challenges. If we are to have even the slightest hope or prayer of making a difference for God’s glory, we must know about life the way He designed it, and not devise our own schemes (for our sin shall find us out, whether this generation or the tenth!).

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works” (2 Timothy 3:16,17). “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths” (Proverbs 3:5,6).

The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger (Jeremiah 7:18 KJV).

What is their family enterprise?

These sins of heathen idolatry were not accidental but deliberate, the result of several centuries of unbelief. Like today, it had been the family’s practice to ignore God’s prophets or preachers generation after generation.

Read what follows today’s Scripture: “[22] For I spake not unto your fathers, nor commanded them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices: [23] But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you. [24] But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward. [25] Since the day that your fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt unto this day I have even sent unto you all my servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them: [26] Yet they hearkened not unto me, nor inclined their ear, but hardened their neck: they did worse than their fathers.

“[27] Therefore thou shalt speak all these words unto them; but they will not hearken to thee: thou shalt also call unto them; but they will not answer thee. [28] But thou shalt say unto them, This is a nation that obeyeth not the voice of the LORD their God, nor receiveth correction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth. [29] Cut off thine hair, O Jerusalem, and cast it away, and take up a lamentation on high places; for the LORD hath rejected and forsaken the generation of his wrath. [30] For the children of Judah have done evil in my sight, saith the LORD: they have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to pollute it.”

Let us summarize and conclude this devotionals arc….

The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger (Jeremiah 7:18 KJV).

What is their family enterprise?

Generally, society looks down upon people who take their children with them during the commission of their crimes. They wag their fingers, shake their heads, and cry out, “Shame! Shame! Shame!” To see a son accompany his father in a theft, or a daughter go with her mother to commit a murder, is an extremely appalling situation to anyone who possesses integrity and seeks justice. Yet, and this is most (most! most!! most!!!) unfortunate, almost no one has any spiritual sense to recognize the eternal disgrace connected to parents taking their children to religious services that will damn their souls.

It is no secret that children copy their parents. When children in today’s Scripture collect wood, it is because their parents by example taught them to do it! For what purpose are these children gathering this wood? Why, their fathers will light a fire with those sticks. The mothers, their wives, are hard at work in the kitchen forming cakes to bake on that fire. What is their reason? The queen of heaven, the mother goddess, is to be worshipped with food and drink! A holy meal will be held in her honor, and she will be venerated because of all her goodness, power, and wisdom! Apparently, she deserves far more attention than JEHOVAH God! (While it is offensive, the fact of the matter is that this blasphemy is being committed all over the world this very moment, and the most obvious form is the Eucharist or the Mass of Roman Catholicism [wherein Mary is actually called “the queen of heaven!”]. Check the warning in 1 Corinthians 10:19-22, what the professing church has ignored for 20 centuries!)

The family enterprise, the family business, of today’s Scripture is nothing but devil worship. Yet, it has nothing to do with murder, stealing, adultery, gambling, smoking cigarettes, drunkenness, prostitution, gangbanging, drug-dealing, or any other sin of the flesh. It is the sin of the spirit, a transgression committed in works-religion… with children in tow….

The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger (Jeremiah 7:18 KJV).

What is their family enterprise?

Mother-goddess worship can be traced back to the Tower of Babel 4,000 years ago. Her original name was Semiramis. When the LORD God scattered the nations from Babel (Babylon) because of their pagan idolatry (Genesis 11:1-9), they took with them worldwide that concept of a mother goddess.

Consequently, all peoples paid her homage, though under various names because of language differences: Nana (Sumerians), Indrani/Isi (Indians), Disa (Scandinavians), Venus/Fortuna (Romans), Nutria (Etruscans), Aphrodite/Ceres (Greeks), Shingmoo (Chinese), Hertha (Germans), Venus/Fortuna (Romans), Isis (Egyptians), Cybele (Asians in Turkey), Virgo/Patitura (Druids), Astarte/Ashtaroth (Phoenicians—see Judges 2:13, Judges 10:6, and 1 Samuel 7:3), and Diana/Artemis (Ephesians—see Acts 19:24,27-28,34-35). In fact, she is the Virgin Mary of Roman Catholicism, and Mother Earth or Mother Nature (also known as Gaia)!

The Jews during Jeremiah’s ministry (today’s Scripture) knew God’s attitude about pagan idolatry, especially mother-goddess worship, but they engaged in anyway. This resulted in their deportation to Babylon under King Nebuchadnezzar. Even after the Babylonian exile was underway, they kept worshipping her. Jeremiah chapter 44: “[17] But we will certainly do whatsoever thing goeth forth out of our own mouth, to burn incense unto the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem: for then had we plenty of victuals, and were well, and saw no evil. [18] But since we left off to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, we have wanted all things, and have been consumed by the sword and by the famine. [19] And when we burned incense to the queen of heaven, and poured out drink offerings unto her, did we make her cakes to worship her, and pour out drink offerings unto her, without our men?”

How sad it was that (in today’s Scripture) they even brought their children into this heathen darkness….

The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger (Jeremiah 7:18 KJV).

What is their family enterprise?

Despite what natural-man thinking dictates, the biblical model is for the husband-father to be his family’s spiritual leader. God gave His Word to Adam first, for Eve was not yet in existence. Adam, apparently, had the responsibility of committing that Divine revelation to his wife when she came later. “And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die” (Genesis 2:16-17).

“And if they [the women of verse 34] will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church” (1 Corinthians 14:35). “Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety” (1 Timothy 2:11-15).

“Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing” (Ephesians 5:22-24). “And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4).

In today’s Scripture, however, we find families in spiritual disarray, for they have strayed quite far from the Creator’s design. The men are leading their families—their wives and children—down the path of certain spiritual destruction….
