He Was One of The World’s Richest! #4

“But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?” (Luke 12:20 KJV).

He was “one of the world’s richest,” but now he is among its poorest!

The Lord Jesus posed these solemn questions in Matthew 16:26 (cf. Mark 8:36,37): “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” Examining the context (Matthew 16:24-28; Mark 8:34-38), we ascertain this applies to Israel’s situation leading up to His Second Coming.

Read Matthew 10:32,33; Revelation 12:11; and Revelation 13:1-18. With the Antichrist ascending to power, individual Jews will have one of two choices. Firstly, they can confess Jesus Christ, upon which time they forfeit their material possessions and are executed. Secondly, they can deny Jesus Christ, after which the Antichrist allows them to retain their physical belongings and they avoid the death penalty. Ultimately, when Christ returns, He resurrects the slain saints to enter His kingdom (Revelation 20:1-5) but He kills the living sinners to be taken to Hell (Revelation 14:9-12)!

Christ’s questions in Matthew 16:26 and Mark 8:36,37 are rhetorical. He knew the answers, and we do too—provided we have the renewed mind. To “gain the whole world” means to be in full fellowship with Satan’s evil world system (see Galatians 1:4)—all its diabolical desires, thoughts, values, preferences, and goals (see 1 John 2:15-17). If it were possible for a man to acquire all secular knowledge, all earthly riches, everything this life has to offer, it would really amount to nothing because he lost his soul. Not only would his earthly life be taken, his soul would be eternally damned! Here was the precarious fate about which Christ warned during His earthly ministry.

“Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:…” (Matthew 6:19,20). This part of the Sermon on the Mount was Jesus’ way of preparing Israel to escape the Antichrist’s deception….

God’s Profaned Name #10

“And I will sanctify my great name, which was profaned among the heathen, which ye have profaned in the midst of them; and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, saith the Lord GOD, when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes” (Ezekiel 36:23 KJV).

How was God’s great name “profaned among the heathen?” In what way will He “sanctify” it?

Today’s Scripture is definitely part of the prophetic program. It involves God’s purpose and plan for Israel and the Earth. The Holy Spirit comments on how the nation Israel in time past abandoned the identity that their Creator gave them. They were not reflections of the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Despite their infidelity, He, in the ages to come, will be faithful in bringing to pass His original promise to them. They are to be His vessels to reach the Gentiles when the Lord Jesus Christ comes back to reign.

What about us, the Church the Body of Christ? Can we profane God’s name? Yes, we can. If we are not careful to walk in our identity in Christ, as described in Romans to Philemon, we can misrepresent Him as Israel did long ago. “And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him” (Colossians 3:17).

If what we say and do is incompatible with all that the Lord Jesus would say and do (His “name”), then non-Christians will see and hear conflicting information. Our misconduct will become the scoffer’s principle: “I am not a Christian and never want to be a Christian because ‘Christians’ lead a worse life than I do as a non-Christian.” It will be similar to ancient Israel’s detractors: “For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written” (Romans 2:24). “If that nonsense is what it means to be a worshipper of JEHOVAH God, we will keep our idols and die as heathen!”

As we (the Body of Christ) seek to avoid Israel’s disasters, we bear in mind passages such as Philippians 1:9-11 and Philippians 2:13-16. “And let ours also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses, that they be not unfruitful” (Titus 3:14).

God’s Profaned Name #9

“And I will sanctify my great name, which was profaned among the heathen, which ye have profaned in the midst of them; and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, saith the Lord GOD, when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes” (Ezekiel 36:23 KJV).

How was God’s great name “profaned among the heathen?” In what way will He “sanctify” it?

Defining His Kingdom Constitution—the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew chapters 5–7)—Christ addressed His Jewish believing remnant (the Little Flock) with this exhortation: “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 5:14-16).

He was drawing from Isaiah 60:1-3, a prophecy about His Second Coming and subsequent Kingdom: “Arise, shine; for thy [Israel’s] light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee. For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.” Take notice also of Isaiah 59:20,21 (cf. Romans 11:26,27).

The LORD’S original purpose and plan for the nation Israel finally comes to pass, as the New Covenant erases their sin debt accumulated under the Old Covenant (see Jeremiah 31:31-34; Acts 3:19-21; Hebrews 8:8-13; Hebrews 9:11-17; Hebrews 10:1-22). Here is the goal of the prophetic program. Israel is now qualified to be blessed as per the Abrahamic Covenant of Genesis 12:1-3, and able to be a channel of salvation and blessing to all the world. The “heathen” (nations, Gentiles) of today’s Scripture will look at redeemed Israel and see light (ages to come) instead of darkness (time past). Filled with God’s Spirit and life, Israel will impart His knowledge to the Gentiles, resulting in worldwide revival (see Zechariah 8:20-23)!

Now, as touching the mystery program and us the Church the Body of Christ, let us consider if we can “profane” God’s name….

“And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever” (2 Samuel 7:12,13 KJV).

Let us search the Scriptures to see how Solomon is a type of the antitype Jesus….

Whether Psalm 72, Psalm 89, or Psalm 132, we find hints of both Solomon (immediately) and Jesus (ultimately) fulfilling the Davidic Covenant (cf. today’s Scripture). Solomon typifies the Lord Jesus in at least 13 particulars. Both are sons of David and both are heirs to his throne. Solomon and Jesus are shepherds. They are both kings. Each possesses and expresses God’s wisdom. Solomon and Jesus are both highly exalted and materially prosperous. Peace, the end of war, is the hallmark of each kingdom. Judgment and justice or righteousness highlight their reigns. Both monarchs have worldwide fame and influence. The Gentiles or non-Jews bring physical wealth to honor both Solomon and Christ.

King Solomon and King Jesus each build houses for the LORD (Father God), Solomon erecting a physical structure (Jerusalem Temple) and Jesus forming a spiritual building (Israel’s Little Flock or believing remnant; Luke 12:32). Solomon’s intimate relationship with his sexually-pure wife represents Christ’s union to Israel’s spiritually-pure Little Flock at His Second Coming and subsequent earthly kingdom.

Jesus Christ declared, “The queen of the south [Queen of Sheba] shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here” (Matthew 12:42; cf. Luke 11:31). This “greater than Solomon” is (superior) King Jesus Christ Himself—whom unbelieving Israel refuses to hear and believe in Matthew to John! Messiah Jesus and His kingdom miracles are connected to “Solomon’s Porch” in John 10:23, Acts 3:11, and Acts 5:12. This portico or covered walkway of the Jerusalem Temple again relates Christ Jesus’ kingdom (antitype) to Solomon’s kingdom (type). Had Israel been trusting their Old Testament Scriptures, they would have seen these striking similarities and accepted Jesus as Messiah (David’s Son) instead of crucifying Him in unbelief (John 19:14-16)!

Let us search the Scriptures to see how Solomon is a type of the antitype Jesus….

King Solomon “…spake three thousand proverbs: and his songs were a thousand and five” (1 Kings 4:32). Some of these witty sayings, obviously, have been preserved for us in the Bible Book of Proverbs (God’s wisdom as expressed through Solomon). As for his songs, we have one of them too—the Bible Book known as “Song of Solomon.” “The song of songs, which is Solomon’s” (Song of Solomon 1:1).

Song of Solomon is a love poem, graphically recounting Solomon and his wife as they courted, wed, and enjoyed married life. Although he eventually had 1,000 lovers (see 1 Kings 11:3), his original romantic relationship was likely with Naamah (mother of his son, Rehoboam; see 2 Chronicles 12:13). Interestingly, before he was a king, Solomon was a shepherd (Song of Solomon 1:7), matching Jesus Christ who is both Shepherd (Psalm 23:1; John 10:14; 1 Peter 2:25) and King (Luke 1:31-33; Acts 2:30; Revelation 19:16).

Nevertheless, once Solomon abandoned God’s wisdom (Proverbs), he participated in Satan’s evil world system (Ecclesiastes—life apart from the LORD God). Recall his downfall of 1 Kings 11:1-8. Here, Solomon represents the Antichrist, another apostate and idolatrous Israeli king, future from us (see Daniel 8:23-25). As Solomon fashioned a chair for himself by counterfeiting God’s white judgment throne (1 Kings 10:18-20; 2 Chronicles 9:17-19; cf. Revelation 20:11), connecting himself to the number “six” (man’s number), so the Antichrist will sit in the Temple’s Mercy Seat pretending to be God (see Daniel 11:36,37; 2 Thessalonians 2:4) and associating himself with “666” (Revelation 13:16-18)!

Song of Solomon accentuates sexual purity. Solomon’s first wife epitomizes Israel’s believing remnant (Christ’s bride; Hosea 2:14-23) adopting Proverbs’ wisdom, who thereby avoids the spiritual fornication (diabolical, idolatrous religion) of the Antichrist (Ecclesiastes). The true King, Jesus Christ, is approaching for His marriage (Matthew 22:1-14; Matthew 25:1-13; Revelation 19:7-9), exactly like Solomon was en route with his true love expecting him (Song of Solomon 8:14; cf. Revelation 22;17,20)!

Let us search the Scriptures to see how Solomon is a type of the antitype Jesus….

As peace prevailed with Solomon, so it will with Christ’s kingdom. “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this” (Isaiah 9:6,7). Christ Jesus fulfills the Davidic Covenant as delineated in Psalms, “peace” again linking Christ to Solomon.

“Even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both” (Zechariah 6:13). This is Christ’s Second Coming. Also, Zechariah 9:10: “And I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim, and the horse from Jerusalem, and the battle bow shall be cut off: and he shall speak peace unto the heathen: and his dominion shall be from sea even to sea, and from the river even to the ends of the earth” (His First Coming is verse 9; cf. Matthew 21:4,5).

As touching Jesus’ birth, Luke 2:11-14: “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.” This “peace on earth”—world peace—will not be possible until Christ’s return.

Let us search the Scriptures to see how Solomon is a type of the antitype Jesus….

King David fathered numerous children, but the LORD chose a solitary son, Solomon, to rule after him (1 Chronicles 28:5; 1 Chronicles 29:1). Still, this inconvenient fact did not deter one of Solomon’s half-brothers from scheming to presumptuously seize the throne… twice. For example, in 1 Kings chapter 1, older son Adonijah tried to rule as king while elderly David was in his final days of earthly life, but David was informed of the uprising and suppressed Adonijah by publicly endorsing Solomon as his replacement. For a time, Adonijah had his supporters who celebrated him as “monarch,” but he and his chief supporters were eventually removed from office—with some even executed for their treason (see 1 Kings 2:12-35)!

In a parallel situation nearly 10 centuries later, the Lord Jesus Christ is Father God’s chosen King for Israel (re-read Luke 1:31-33), but Christ’s enemies cleverly connived to take His life so they could usurp His throne and remain in control of the nation Israel. These were the religious leaders, whom He Himself, just a few days before they killed Him via crucifixion, exposed most graphically in the highly offensive Parable of the Wicked Husbandmen (see Matthew 21:33-46, Mark 12:1-12, and Luke 20:9-20). Those “scholars” seemed to be “in control,” and were praised for being such “godly men,” but they were pretenders who were willfully disobeying the Lord’s will in order to take over God’s nation. As Solomon’s foes who did not desire he reign over them ultimately lost their lives in the process, so the Lord Jesus Christ’s adversaries who refused Him will be slain when He comes back to reign (see Matthew 22:1-14; Luke 19:11-27).

Let us search the Scriptures to see how Solomon is a type of the antitype Jesus….

King David sought to build a house for the LORD (2 Samuel 7:1-6), but the LORD replied how He (the LORD) would build him (David) a house instead (see verse 11). In this context of today’s Scripture, God will give David a dynasty, a series of sons to serve as his successors, the first offspring being Solomon. Solomon will build a house for the LORD by erecting the Jerusalem Temple which David had intended to construct. That edifice was made of materials such as cedar, fir, stones, gold, and brass (see 1 Kings 5–6 and 2 Chronicles 2–5).

Similarly, Jesus Christ, another son of David, will build a house for Father God (see today’s Scripture again). This is believing Israel—the Little Flock of Luke 12:32, and the Messianic Church of Matthew 16:15-19. They, as a kingdom of priests, will be the vessels through whom Father God will manifest His life on Earth throughout the endless ages to come.

“For this man [Jesus Christ] was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house. For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God. And Moses verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after; But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end” (Hebrews 3:3-6). “To whom [the Lord] coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 2:4,5).

Let us search the Scriptures to see how Solomon is a type of the antitype Jesus….

Though today’s Scripture looks immediately to Solomon, who would be born during David’s lifetime, it obviously anticipated someone beyond Solomon. For instance, notice the words, “I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever.” Solomon definitely did not reign forever, for he died and his son took the throne. “And Solomon slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David his father: and Rehoboam his son reigned in his stead” (1 Kings 11:43). “And Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel forty years. And Solomon slept with his fathers, and he was buried in the city of David his father: and Rehoboam his son reigned in his stead” (2 Chronicles 9:30,31).

Looking at the larger picture, we see the prophecy of Solomon merging into the prophecy of Jesus Christ. “I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever” matches the promise of Luke 1:33: “And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.” This is also Christ’s Second Coming and His eternal, global reign: “And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever. Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure” (Daniel 2:44,45).

The Assyrian #4

“For through the voice of the LORD shall the Assyrian be beaten down, which smote with a rod” (Isaiah 30:31 KJV).

Who is this “Assyrian?”

Remembering the Pharaoh who kept Israel in bondage and tried his hardest to annihilate the Jewish people (the “Assyrian” in Isaiah 52:4), recalling Sennacherib the King of Assyria who wanted to defeat Jerusalem but failed (2 Kings 19:34-37; 2 Chronicles 32:21,22; Isaiah 37:35-38), we reach the third Assyrian of Isaiah’s colossal Book—the “Assyrian” of today’s Scripture (the Antichrist).

This Assyrian, like ancient Pharaoh, purposes to do whatever is necessary to “cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance” (Psalm 83:4). Like Sennacherib, this Assyrian will come against Jerusalem in battle. Re-read Isaiah 30:27-33, Christ’s fiery Second Coming, yet future from us. The LORD’S voice roars from Heaven as He descends through Earth’s atmosphere. A violent storm accompanies Him—fire, hailstones, fierce winds. As Pharoah and Sennacherib were destroyed, so the LORD will kill the Antichrist.

“For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled [looted], and the women ravished [assaulted]; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city. Then shall the LORD [Jesus Christ] go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle. And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives….” (Zechariah 14:2-4a).

“And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;…” (2 Thessalonians 1:7-9). “And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:…” (2 Thessalonians 2:8; cf. today’s Scripture).

Christ Jesus returns to free Israel from Satan and sin, ready to rule the Heaven and the Earth from David’s throne forever (see a glimpse in Zechariah 14:9)!
