“Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word” (Psalm 119:9 KJV).

If our physical posterity could augment its spiritual dexterity, exactly what would that entail?

Observe two verses carelessly tossed around in denominational circles. “For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed” (Malachi 3:6). “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever” (Hebrews 13:8). By citing these Scriptures, such people imagine they have permission from God Himself to do whatever they wish—including entertaining the assumption they can somehow manipulate or beg Him enough to give them their way (such as making Him repeat His actions of time past). Here is what they fail to see, or refuse to see. God’s nature or character is immutable, unchanging, for He never ceases to be omniscient (all-knowing), omnipresent (all-existent), omnipotent (all-powerful), faithful, righteous, holy, possessor of eternal life, and so on. However, His relations with mankind can and do change. A plethora of verses can be offered to easily demonstrate that, including this excerpt from the Bible.

“I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy. Now if the fall of them be the riches of the world, and the diminishing of them the riches of the Gentiles; how much more their fulness?…. For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead?…. Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:…. For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in” (Romans 11:11,12,15,20,25).

Opinions and idle speculations aside, according to the Word of God, Israel (once at the forefront of God’s dealings with man) is presently “fallen,” “diminished,” “cast away,” “broken off,” and “blinded.” This necessarily means Israel’s covenants are not in force and their accompanying signs are not in operation either. Remember, the very program to which they belong has been interrupted, prophecy temporarily giving way to mystery….

If our physical posterity could augment its spiritual dexterity, exactly what would that entail?

Dear friend, mark it well: Israel is God’s sign people. Whether the Abrahamic Covenant and its sign of physical circumcision, or the Old/Mosaic Covenant and its sign of Sabbath-Day keeping, or the Davidic Covenant and its sign of water baptism, or the Palestinian Covenant and its sign of Israel’s regathering into the Promised Land, or the New Covenant and its sign of the outpouring of the Holy Ghost and spiritual gifts, all these irrefutably prove Israel is God’s literal, physical, visible, earthly people with literal, physical, visible, earthly works. In the Bible, Israel and signs are absolutely inseparable.

Now, observe carefully! Here is where Christendom, our denominations, our churches went wrong. They want the same evidence (tokens or proofs) of God’s working with them, for they think what He was doing (and will do) with Israel is what He is still doing with them/us. It is Bible ignorance and false assumptions, multiplied over the course of 20 centuries. “What God did then, He still does now. He never changes.” Our denominational and theological systems were founded on this mentality of, “I want to be like Israel,” or “I am Israel.” They suppose there is spirituality in copying Israel’s program, and, where they cannot copy it, they just pretend to follow it, which produces hypocrisy.

What intensifies the silliness is when those who believe we have not replaced Israel and believe we are not Israel, become the very people who steal Israel’s covenants and Israel’s signs and apply them to themselves! No wonder people are confused, having receiving such mixed messages; no wonder they are frustrated, blending that which God never intended to be mixed; no wonder they struggle with doubts (unbelief). Of course, God is then blamed for this mess, people are turned away from the Scriptures altogether, and Satan is thoroughly delighted. How fortunate I was that I spent just the first 10 years of my Christian life in this cesspool of spiritual sewage before I escaped it. Others remain there for several decades, quite satisfied with their traditions of men (!).

Let us get back to “rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15)….

If our physical posterity could augment its spiritual dexterity, exactly what would that entail?

Remember, Israel and signs go together. “And Aaron spake all the words which the LORD had spoken unto Moses, and did the signs in the sight of the people. And the people believed: and when they heard that the LORD had visited the children of Israel, and that he had looked upon their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshipped” (Exodus 4:30,31). “Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe” (John 4:48). “For the Jews require a sign…” (1 Corinthians 1:22). Actually, Israel declares in Psalm 74:9: “We see not our signs: there is no more any prophet:….” Signs are Israel’s national birthright; they belong to them!

The sign of the New Covenant is the outpouring of the Holy Ghost. “And I will put my spirit within you…” (Ezekiel 36:27). “And shall put my spirit in you,…” (Ezekiel 37:14). “…for I have poured out my spirit upon the house of Israel, saith the Lord GOD” (Ezekiel 39:29). “And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh… And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit” (Joel 2:28,29). Israel’s believing remnant underwent this in Acts 2:1-4,16-18,33. The opening chapters of Acts preview the New Covenant that will be ratified at Christ’s Second Coming (Acts 3:19-21; Romans 11:25-29).

In early Acts, Israel’s believing remnant filled with the Holy Spirit is empowered to perform signs. “And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles” (Acts 2:43; cf. Mark 16:20). “And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people;…” (Acts 5:12). “God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?” (Hebrews 2:4). “…[A]nd were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,…” (Hebrews 6:4,5). These miraculous demonstrations (spiritual gifts) of Matthew through John and early Acts preview God’s literal, physical, visible, earthly kingdom to be founded at Christ’s Second Coming….

If our physical posterity could augment its spiritual dexterity, exactly what would that entail?

The nation Israel is in a dilemma! Having proposed they could become the LORD God’s people by doing “all” that He had spoken (Exodus 19:3-8), and failing miserably, they disqualified themselves under the Law of Moses. For Israel to be a blessing to the world (Abrahamic Covenant of Genesis 12:1-3), she herself must be blessed… and that necessitates the removal of the curses of the Law (Old Covenant) incurred by the nation’s millennia of sin.

Jeremiah 31:31-34: “Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake [disobeyed, violated], although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”

Ezekiel 36:26-28: “A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them. And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God.” Hebrews chapters 8–10 explain how this New Covenant is founded on Christ’s finished crosswork.

Let us now see the “sign” of this New Covenant….

If our physical posterity could augment its spiritual dexterity, exactly what would that entail?

Genesis 12:1-3 states how the Abrahamic Covenant encompasses three main issues: (1) a land, (2) a nation, and (3) a blessing to the world. The LORD God has deeded real-estate to the nation Israel—the land of Canaan, or the land of Palestine (cf. Exodus 15:14,15). Such is the Palestinian Covenant: “And I will give unto thee [Abraham], and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God” (Genesis 17:8; cf. Genesis 12:7; Genesis 13:14-18; Genesis 15:7-21). This is the very “Promised Land” to which Israel was headed upon leaving Egypt under Moses’ leadership.

The Law (Old Covenant) that Israel insisted on having meant the punishment of exile (removal) from that Promised Land in the event of disobedience—the fifth course of judgment or chastisement (Leviticus 26:27-46; Deuteronomy 28:62-64). Such a curse was finally meted out when Assyrian armies took the 10 (northern) tribes of idolatrous Israel captive to Assyria in 2 Kings chapter 17, and the Babylonian troops took the two (southern) tribes of idolatrous Judah prisoner to Babylon in 2 Kings chapter 25. However, the LORD swore He would bring all 12 tribes back to the land of Canaan in the end times (for instance, see Psalm 37:3,11,29,34; Isaiah 60:21; Jeremiah 3:18; Jeremiah 7:7; Jeremiah 16:15; Jeremiah 23:3,8; Jeremiah 30:3,10; Jeremiah 31:16,17; Jeremiah 32:37; Jeremiah 46:27; Ezekiel 11:17; Ezekiel 20:33-36,41,42; Ezekiel 34:12,13; Ezekiel 36:19,20,24,28; Ezekiel 37:12,14,21,22,25; Ezekiel 39:28).

At Christ’s Second Coming, Israel’s re-gathering into the land is the sign of the Palestinian Covenant: “And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other” (Matthew 24:30,31). For Israel to be everything God intended her to be in the Earth, one final covenant and one last attendant “sign” are required….

If our physical posterity could augment its spiritual dexterity, exactly what would that entail?

Since Israel refused to walk by faith in the Abrahamic Covenant—thereby repeating Abraham’s sin of depending on the flesh (works/Ishmael)—her people accepted the Old Covenant (Law of Moses) by promising to completely obey the LORD so as to become His people (Exodus 19:3-8). Amongst the 613 commandments He issued them at Mount Sinai, the Fourth was: “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it” (Exodus 20:8-11).

The Sabbath is a “sign,” the sign or symbol of the Old Covenant: “Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant. It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed” (Exodus 31:16,17). Israel was ordered to quit working every Sabbath (Saturday!) and remember why God Himself had rested on the first Sabbath in Genesis 2:1-3: “Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.” Remember, Israel plays a role in glorifying that God of creation, and this they do in the Earth. The Sabbath loops toward the ages to come, the kingdom “rest” of God’s earthly program (the kingdom of the Gospel of the Kingdom) (Hebrews 3:7–4:11).

Israel has yet another covenant, and yet another related “sign….”

If our physical posterity could augment its spiritual dexterity, exactly what would that entail?

Just about everyone in Christendom has no grasp of why Christ was water baptized. Apparently, all they can manage saying is, “If you want to be Jesus’ disciple, you need to obey God by following Him in ‘believer’s baptism!’” Instead of supporting a manmade institution by mindlessly parroting some cliché they heard in church, it would be far better if they carefully searched the Holy Scriptures they claim to know and esteem. They will thus understand the purpose of water baptism and gain some spiritual enlightenment and maturity.

Water baptism is a sign, the representation of the Davidic Covenant (just as physical circumcision symbolizes the Abrahamic Covenant). It accompanies the preaching of the Gospel of the Kingdom, as Israel is to become a kingdom of priests and must therefore undergo a washing with water like the Levitical priests at their installation. Water baptism signifies a purification, the defilement of idolatry being washed away. If so, then why was Jesus water baptized? Observe! Friend, if we are going to adopt the Bible-believing view, here are four reasons for His own water baptism.

Firstly, since water baptism is needful for priests (Exodus 29:4; Leviticus 8:6), and Christ is repeatedly designated as Israel’s “high priest” (Hebrews 2:17; Hebrews 3:1; Hebrews 4:14,15; Hebrews 5:5,10; Hebrews 6:20; Hebrews 7:26; Hebrews 8:1; Hebrews 9:11; Hebrews 10:21), He was water baptized and that “to fulfill all righteousness” (Matthew 3:13-17; cf. Mark 1:9-11). Secondly, the Lord Jesus needed water baptism to be manifested to Israel as Messiah/Christ, the Son of God (John 1:29-34). Thirdly, Christ was water baptized to identify Himself with believing Israel (“Little Flock;” Luke 12:32) that was likewise water baptized (Luke 3:21,22—to wit, He blends in with “all the people [believing Jewish remnant coming to John the Baptist’s water baptism]”). Fourthly, by Jesus being water baptized, He was exposing as lost (unbelievers, or, not His people!) those Jews who had refused to be water baptized of John (Luke 7:29,30).

We reiterate. For believing Israel (and for believing Gentiles in prophecy), water baptism is necessary as an outward indication of inward cleansing. Let us see yet another sign in God’s purpose and plan for the nation Israel….

If our physical posterity could augment its spiritual dexterity, exactly what would that entail?

Water baptism has been fittingly titled “religious TNT.” Fiery, explosive arguments have arisen because, instead of letting the pure Word of God have preeminence, individuals have isolated verses from their contexts to uphold denominations. Precious few understand that water baptism is not a New Testament ordinance, but an Old Testament one.

Under the Law of Moses, Levitical priests washed with water at their ordination (Exodus 29:4; Leviticus 8:6). Therefore, for Israel to be a kingdom of priests (Exodus 19:6; 1 Peter 2:9), each believing Jew must be water baptized, and that to symbolize purification from idolatry’s pollution: “Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you” (Ezekiel 36:25). Water baptism is the sign of the Davidic Covenant. Therefore, John the Baptist, preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom, was water baptizing in Matthew 3:5-7: “Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan, And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins. But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?”

Water baptism saves believing Israel from God’s end-times wrath. “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned” (Mark 16:16). “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost” (Acts 2:38). “…the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:…” (1 Peter 3:20,21). Moreover, in prophecy, believing Gentiles are also water baptized so believing Israel sees how these Gentiles have forsaken their idols (Matthew 28:19,20).

Now, we address Christ’s own water baptism….

If our physical posterity could augment its spiritual dexterity, exactly what would that entail?

God promised Abraham would be the father of “kings” (Genesis 17:6,16; cf. Genesis 35:11, reconfirmation to grandson and heir Jacob). Born about a millennium later, David was the most famous of these historical kings, with whom the LORD made this covenant: “And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever. I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men: But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee. And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever. According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David” (2 Samuel 7:12-17).

Remember, the LORD purposed to make Israel “a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation” (Exodus 19:6). “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;…” (1 Peter 2:9). One of David’s sons will permanently occupy his throne—and this is Jesus Christ, JEHOVAH God who takes on human flesh and receives the legal right to the throne through Joseph and the biological right to the throne through Mary. “And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end” (Luke 1:31-33; cf. Matthew 1:1,6,20; cf. Isaiah 9:6,7).

This is the kingdom of the Gospel of the Kingdom….

If our physical posterity could augment its spiritual dexterity, exactly what would that entail?

What was the significance of the healing miracles and casting out of devils of Moses’ ministry, Christ’s earthly ministry, and the 12 Apostles’ ministry in early Acts? It was more than simply to help people escape suffering or entertain them with supernatural demonstrations. God was communicating sound Bible doctrine by fulfilling centuries-old prophecies of the Old Testament.

“For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; he will save us…. And the inhabitant shall not say, I am sick: the people that dwell therein shall be forgiven their iniquity” (Isaiah 33:22,24). When God would found His earthly kingdom, there would be no physical disability or disease: “Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing:…” (Isaiah 35:5,6). Once Messiah (Christ Jesus) arrived, there would be a proliferation of healing miracles—as well as casting out of devils (evil spirits that rendered Israel unclean, unfit for God’s service): “And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD of hosts, that I will cut off the names of the idols out of the land, and they shall no more be remembered: and also I will cause the prophets and the unclean spirit to pass out of the land” (Zechariah 13:2). It would be the very earthly kingdom God intended for Adam and man before the Fall, before there were satanic activities on Earth and before there was the curse of sin and sickness on Earth. Hebrews 2:4 recalls early Acts: “God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?”

If Israel was to be used of God, not only did her people need to be cleansed of sin and delivered from Satan, they had to see proof that they would be God’s kingdom of priests. Thus enters the Davidic Covenant, and yet another sign….
