“Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word” (Psalm 119:9 KJV).

If our physical posterity could augment its spiritual dexterity, exactly what would that entail?

Confession (admission) of sins in 1 John 1:9 is required for forgiveness, “cleansed from all unrighteousness” under the Law of Moses. However, we are under Grace (Romans 6:14,15; Galatians 5:18). As our Apostle Paul writes, God has already forgiven us in Christ of all sins, free and forever, without such confession. “In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;…” (Ephesians 1:7). “And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you” (Ephesians 4:32). “In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:…” (Colossians 1:14). “And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;…” (Colossians 2:13). “Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye” (Colossians 3:13). We admitted our sin problem when we placed our faith in Jesus Christ to save us from those sins!

First John 1:9 mentions cleansing from “all unrighteousness.” How many times can we be cleansed from all unrighteousness? Someone would say, “You are forgiven up until you trust Christ, then you must keep ‘short accounts,’ asking God for forgiveness daily.” This is not what 1 John 1:9 teaches, and whatever it does teach is not to or about us! Paul wrote, “Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works, Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin” (Romans 4:6-8). Either we have forgiveness (believers), or we do not (unbelievers). There is no partial forgiveness here! If God holds even one sin against us, Romans 4:6-8 becomes a lie, and we are headed for Hell! God cannot “impute” (apply, reckon) sin to us in Christ. Confessing sins directly to God, to a priest, or to anyone else, is completely unnecessary today. It is shocking, but it is true.

Now, we tackle another “hot topic”….

“Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word” (Psalm 119:9 KJV).

If our physical posterity could augment its spiritual dexterity, exactly what would that entail?

The Book of 1 John addresses Israel (cf. Galatians 2:9; Matthew 10:2,5-7): “If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us” (1 John 1:6-10).

John understands there is believing Israel and there is unbelieving Israel. Read 1 John 2:12: “I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name’s sake.” Even in 1 John, 1 John 1:9 is not a daily practice of believers, but an expression of moving from unbelief to faith. First John 1:9 is an appeal to lost Jews, Jews so self-righteous they suppose they have no sins to confess (cf. Luke 7:29,30; cf. Matthew 3:6,9; Mark 1:4,5; Luke 3:3,8). The Apostle John writes 1 John 1:9 to unsaved Jews, for believing Jews have already confessed their sins under John the Baptist’s ministry and now possess forgiveness (1 John 2:12).

Today, it is assumed we need to confess our sins to obtain forgiveness. Here, the “Our Father” Prayer is quoted: “And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors…. For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses” (Matthew 6:12,14,15). To repeat, this is part of Israel’s national Kingdom restoration (Leviticus 26:40-42), confession of sins an admission they need the New Covenant (cf. Jeremiah 31:31-34) because they can never measure up to the demands of the Old Covenant (cf. Ezra 9:1–10:1; Daniel 9:3-20; Matthew 3:6; Mark 1:5)….

“Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word” (Psalm 119:9 KJV).

If our physical posterity could augment its spiritual dexterity, exactly what would that entail?

First John 1:9 explains, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Alas, this has been so mindlessly repeated and misused in religious circles for centuries that it means practically nothing now. Not only should we believe the verse, we should also believe the context.

Confession of sins is in perfect accordance with the Law of Moses, which directed disobedient Israel suffering punishment to confess (admit) their national sin of violating the Old Covenant: “If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against me, and that also they have walked contrary unto me; And that I also have walked contrary unto them, and have brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their uncircumcised hearts be humbled, and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity: Then will I remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land” (Leviticus 26:40-42). Israel’s national restoration to the LORD God involves confession of sins.

Firstly, Ezra confessed sins in Ezra 9:1-15: “Now when Ezra had prayed, and when he had confessed, weeping and casting himself down before the house of God, there assembled unto him out of Israel a very great congregation of men and women and children: for the people wept very sore” (Ezra 10:1). Secondly, Daniel did it in Daniel 9:3-19: “And whiles I was speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the LORD my God for the holy mountain of my God;…” (Daniel 9:20). Finally, John the Baptist’s converts did the same. “And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins” (Matthew 3:6). “And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins” (Mark 1:5). John the Baptist made ready a people prepared for the Lord (Luke 1:13-17), and the Apostle John is doing likewise in 1 John 1:9….

“Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word” (Psalm 119:9 KJV).

If our physical posterity could augment its spiritual dexterity, exactly what would that entail?

Frankly, the Corinthian church was nothing but spiritual babies excited about having a “good time” at a spiritual amusement park. Fun! Fun! Fun! In other words, pleasure meant more than correctness. To them, if it felt good, it was good—and this is exactly how Satan lured and imprisoned them as touching spiritual gifts and various other issues. Of course, this was their fault because they had left the Pauline/grace doctrine they heard. Such could be said of almost every denomination, local congregation, or “Christian” school now. It is next to impossible for them to give up the lies they have grown so accustomed to hearing, reading, and believing. They ought to be able to recognize how truth should take precedence over tradition. Alas, they seek to have a good standing with their preacher/church/denomination, for, this is what they equate to being in a good standing before God Himself. However, it is a most foolish position to take—especially when we think critically about Bible verses in their dispensational settings.

If sound doctrine unites, it necessarily means that false doctrine divides. Confession of sins is yet another point of contention amongst church members, the countless denominations arguing about its purpose, its method, its audience, and so on. Somewhere in all that disagreement and deception is the truth, but we cannot differentiate it unless we are spiritually mature (and most people are not!). For many years, I was just another churchgoer mixed up about confession of sins. One day, with the help of dear preachers who sought to make me a grown-up believer, I finally made a confession: “I am so (!) pitifully (!) ignorant about confession of sins, but now I know and understand the Bible verses that will set me straight!” What a day never to be forgotten, when I was delivered from satanic darkness and blindness, freed at last from my denominational shackles!

Passing on from the misuse of spiritual gifts in our churches, we must also be sure to keep our mouths shut by not teaching false doctrine about confession of sins either….

“Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word” (Psalm 119:9 KJV).

If our physical posterity could augment its spiritual dexterity, exactly what would that entail?

“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” (Jeremiah 17:9). Man’s sinful heart tricks him. Consumed by religious pride, he imagines that, provided he copies God as much as possible, he has the best chance of acquiring a right standing before God. Howbeit, he is eagerly following Satan’s cheap counterfeit (Isaiah 14:14), simply pretending so he can stroke his ego while pursuing his own rebellion against God: “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity” (Matthew 7:21-23). Calling Jesus “Lord,” preaching in His name, casting out devils in His name, and doing many wonderful works in His name, are not necessarily done to His glory or even performed by Him! He Himself warned it might be “iniquity” (evil)! Likewise, the Corinthian church featured many “supernatural events” and “godly people” that were downright diabolical (cf. 2 Corinthians 11:13-15).

“Let all things be done decently and in order” (1 Corinthians 14:40). Despite all their alleged “spirituality” and “zeal” for spiritual gifts, indecency and impropriety characterized Corinth. Absence of bodily control and lack of emotional regulation are definitely not the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22,23; “temperance”). Of course, like the Corinthians, Pentecostals and Charismatics disobey these rules of 1 Corinthians chapter 14. “So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air” (1 Corinthians 14:9). In spite of all their tongue-talking, some Corinthians were “speaking into the air,” moving their mouths in utter futility (their speech did not match sound Bible doctrine). Talk just as nonsensical defiles today’s churches, but many have chosen to keep it so as to follow their own sinful path….

“Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word” (Psalm 119:9 KJV).

If our physical posterity could augment its spiritual dexterity, exactly what would that entail?

Precious few realize that “glossolalia” (speaking in tongues) is not confined to Pentecostal and charismatic groups of Christendom. “Ecstatic utterances” have been documented in world religions for millennia, including Islam, Buddhism, and Shamanism. Ancient Israel knew of such “peeping and muttering” in devil (!) worship (!) in Isaiah 8:19,20; God directed them to use the Law of Moses (as in Deuteronomy 13:1-18) to gauge the trustworthiness or deceitfulness of these “strange sounds.”

Consequently, we cannot automatically assume glossolalia is of the Holy Spirit; in contrast, Pentecostals and Charismatics are not so discerning. In their terminology, “speaking in tongues is the initial evidence of baptism with the Holy Ghost.” This is an advertisement of Bible ignorance. Heathen priests and devotees of idols in Corinth spoke “the languages of the gods” during their worship services. Such was the culture, the evil world system, out of which God had called the Corinthian believers when He sent Paul to preach to them in Acts chapter 18. Never abandoning their former conversation, they abused and counterfeited the Holy Spirit’s gift of speaking in tongues in 1 Corinthians chapter 14!

Mysterious, supernatural, ecstatic utterances, or guttural sounds, are not necessarily the God of the Bible or Christianity. Hence, in 1 Corinthians chapters 12–14, the tongue must always be interpreted (so the content can be analyzed). Left untranslated, it must be rejected as false, for it cannot be reduced to sound doctrine. Chanting “Lapafa shabala doolaba” gives the speaker an adrenaline rush, a warm or fuzzy feeling, but it creates perplexity in the minds of listeners and makes them recoil in shock, embarrassment, or revulsion. There is no building up of souls—except that of the speaker who “feels special” because he or she delighted in the publicity received while bragging, “I have a spiritual experience you do not!” Remember, the Holy Spirit wrote in the context of the misuse of spiritual gifts: “For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints” (1 Corinthians 14:33). Without sound doctrine, spiritual disorder and spiritual division and spiritual destruction are guaranteed….

“Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word” (Psalm 119:9 KJV).

If our physical posterity could augment its spiritual dexterity, exactly what would that entail?

Glance at all the world’s “Christian” churches, schools, and ministries. Their activities are largely irrelevant to God’s work, for they emphasize entertainment (noisy “worship” music) instead of edification (sound Bible doctrine built in the inner man). Of course, each quotes Scripture verses to “prove” how they have “God’s authority” and “serve Jesus.” Yet, each and every “Christian” group has its own unique blend of beliefs—including major, contradictory differences that will never be resolved. Bitter fights have not only exploded between members of the same local church, all denominations relentlessly bicker with one another in their effort to be supreme. Even people who use the Bible wonder exactly what it teaches, what (if anything) they are to believe in it, and how it relates to them. You can see how appealing it is to just throw away the Scriptures altogether, and turn to atheism, agnosticism, and so on. How did this mess ever arise? Is there any way we can avoid it, or are we condemned to an eternity of this spiritual blindness, darkness, and ignorance?

About 2,000 years ago—yes, that far back—Christians were exceedingly careless. Yea, even in New Testament times, while the Bible canon was still being written, they were not keeping their doctrine pure. The two classic examples, of course, were Corinth and Galatia. Corinth blended Grace with man’s wisdom (philosophy, no Bible), whereas Galatia mixed Grace with works-religion (Law of Moses, which, like the grace of Paul’s ministry, was in the Bible, but not in effect as Grace was). During the next 20 centuries, Bible users and church members followed either the Corinthian pattern or the Galatian pattern, which severed them from God’s light and power. Throughout that time, a few people realized to various degrees to return to the Romans standard. Unfortunately, these few were “outcasts,” for the system of Christendom and its leaders were content with their fusion of Corinthianism and Galatianism. Others proposed various combinations of “solutions” in (failed) attempts to “restore” God’s light and power. Now you know how our denominations formed centuries ago, being preserved to confuse and distract us up to the present moment….

“Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word” (Psalm 119:9 KJV).

If our physical posterity could augment its spiritual dexterity, exactly what would that entail?

Some of the most unfortunate verses, written forever (!) in the Holy Bible, are 1 Corinthians 3:1-3: “And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual [filled with the Holy Spirit], but as unto carnal [fleshly], even as unto babes in Christ. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?” Paul had preached the Gospel of the Grace of God (1 Corinthians 15:3,4) to these Corinthians in Acts chapter 18, prior to writing them. Considering the passage of time, they should have matured in the faith, gaining a capacity for solid food. Yet, remarkably, they were still spiritual newborns, sucking on a baby bottle of milk! It made no sense at all, but we can easily understand what happened. They depended on philosophers (human “thinkers”), assuming these could bring them the life and words of God. How terribly mistaken they were!

Dispensational Bible study is the only system that has been proven useful in extracting maximum profit from the Word of God. We do not deny that even denominationalists get a little something here and there out of the Scriptures. Yet, this “little something” is equivalent to snacking on miniscule appetizers and sipping froth from a diluted beverage. They could be feasting and growing rapidly, developing exponentially to become spiritual adults who actually possess an awareness of what God would have them believe and what He desires to accomplish in and through them. Alas, like the Corinthians, they are in the snare of the Devil, taken captive by him at his will, existing in a spiritual nursery (manmade system) where they struggle to think, walk, and speak even the simplest of sentences. We can rest assured that they are no bother to Satan, for his evil world system has indoctrinated them to be exactly where he strove to have them.

It does not have to be this way….

“Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word” (Psalm 119:9 KJV).

If our physical posterity could augment its spiritual dexterity, exactly what would that entail?

For advanced practical truth, which is situated in the context of the invisible and spiritual battle of Ephesians 6:10-18, turn to Ephesians 5:14-18: “Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;….”

Similar to the nation Israel spiritually asleep in the satanic darkness of Isaiah 60:1-3, the Ephesians languish in a spiritual drunken stupor and are dead practically (their Christian life not functioning). No soldiers can afford to sleep while in the midst of a war! Foolishness or senselessness has no place amongst soldiers! If we are to have any hope or prayer of standing and withstanding the wiles (schemes, tricks, stratagems, tactics) of the Devil, we must “walk circumspectly” (looking around, having careful or cautious conduct, and awareness of our surroundings). We should understand the will of the Lord, for our Superior Officer has given orders for us to follow. If we are “filled with [controlled by] the Spirit,” “the word of Christ dwell[s] in [us] richly in all wisdom” (Colossians 3:16), and then not even Satan himself can cause us to fall. Problems arise when we lean upon our own intellect, depend on the weapons we fashion—and then we end up conquered, frustrated, and unhappy!

Christian living is not we “doing the best we can” and then letting Christ do the rest. No, that is guaranteed failure, so do not even bother with it. Christian living is 100% Christ living. There is never a single defeat as long as we remember and trust the absolute, total, complete victory He secured forever at Calvary for us. If only more believers would simply understand that, they would have much more peace and joy than they are relying on the flesh and the world to give them….

“Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word” (Psalm 119:9 KJV).

If our physical posterity could augment its spiritual dexterity, exactly what would that entail?

Dear friend, imagine warriors preparing for battle. They put on baggy jeans with holes, cheap and thin shirts, and shabby shoes with worn-out soles. Also, they take up plastic trashcan lids as shields, plus baseball caps and butterknives. They get into formation—and are slaughtered when the enemy attacks! Look at the panorama of corpses scattered across the ground. The stench of death is tremendous. Here and there a severely maimed or disfigured body groans and moans—a life not ended but permanently ruined nevertheless. Similar massacres occur every second in the spiritual realm. After our denominations “arm” us with nothing of any real significance, they send us to stand against Satan’s attacks. This has eternal, spiritual results whose full scope we will not realize until the Lord sits in judgment.

How completely preposterous it is that soldiers could ever expect to win any war with such unacceptable clothing and feeble weapons! Moreover, if these causalities occurred in combat—because of saggy pants (instead of snug clothing secured with a belt), a low-quality shirt (not a breastplate), a pair of busted shoes (instead of boots with soles that grip), and a baseball cap (not a strong helmet); and holding a flimsy plastic disk (instead of a metallic one) and a butterknife (not a sharp sword)—these misfortunes could have been foreseen and prevented entirely had the troops used more suitable armor and tools. Did they not have sense to know any better?! Were their commanding officers not more competent than this?!

Satan is always assaulting us believers, but God has given us armor to survive the attack in Ephesians 6:13-18. Essentially, it is sound Bible doctrine (dispensational Bible study) with prayer (talking to God in light of that doctrine, with prayer activating or energizing as the Holy Spirit works in us). We put on this armor by faith, but we cannot believe it unless we are first made aware of it. Manmade materials (denominational doctrine, philosophy or man’s wisdom, church tradition, and so on) are no substitute for the whole armor of God….
