“Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word” (Psalm 119:9 KJV).
If our physical posterity could augment its spiritual dexterity, exactly what would that entail?
“For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat” (2 Thessalonians 3:10). We need jobs to live, so find one that is, first and foremost, respectable. If you could be comfortable performing the occupation’s duties before the Lord Himself, then that is your ideal job. After giving preeminence to honesty and decency, narrow down to something offering decent salary and decent benefits. “Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth” (Ephesians 4:28).
Remember, the highest-paying jobs are not necessarily the best, as they often mean stricter requirements, longer hours, heavier workload, and greater stress. Endeavor to provide for your needs and your family’s needs. Avoid trying to outdo others. Eschew covetousness. “Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life” (1 Timothy 6:17-19). “And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth” (Luke 12:15).
Learn to budget. “The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender” (Proverbs 22:7). Any money you borrow, or debt you owe, makes you subject to the one providing those funds. Once you pay bills and other necessities, save as much of your paycheck as you can, limiting spending on entertainment and other wants. You do not need the latest, greatest invention. Try to purchase affordable essential services and reasonable, functional, orderly, possessions.
