“Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word” (Psalm 119:9 KJV).
If our physical posterity could augment its spiritual dexterity, exactly what would that entail?
“The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread” (1 Corinthians 10:16,17). Here is the scriptural Lord’s Supper. Believers in the Lord Jesus Christ commune at an evening meal—not a morning snack!—while they discuss sound Bible doctrine and enjoy their shared life in Him (His crosswork binding them to each other and God). Whether the Little Flock (Israel’s believing remnant, the Messianic Church) or us the Church the Body of Christ, this is known as “breaking of bread” (Acts 2:42,46; Acts 20:7,11; cf. Luke 24:30,31,35). The subject matter of our discussions at the Lord’s Supper is not to be worldly, idle chit-chat (weather, sports, politics, and so on). It should be Bible topics, dispensationally-correct passages.
Alas, the Corinthian Christians had transformed the Lord’s Supper into a time of carnality, mockery, discord, and ignorance—which is essentially the case in almost every local church now. (This is offensive, but true!) Never fully separating from their pagan culture out of which God had called them, Corinth was preoccupied with heathen/idolatrous “holy meals” (see 1 Corinthians 8:10 and 1 Corinthians 10:19-22,27-33). Hence, Paul had to set forth much information in 1 Corinthians 11:17-34 to bring them back to the biblical standard. Failing to learn 1 Corinthians and secular history, Christendom has also looked to these very pagan banquets for their pattern. Wherefore, the counterfeit Lord’s Supper of ancient Corinth is still very much with us 2,000 years later: it is the Roman Catholic Mass, and, its offshoot, the Protestant “mini-Mass” never abandoned at the Reformation. Using round wafers to hold a “supper” in the morning originated from sun-god worship, not Scripture but syncretism. A literal bite and a literal sip cannot be rightfully regarded as a “supper” anyway. Eating the actual flesh of a god is taken from primitive heathenism, not Scripture but syncretism. If it is not based on the pure Word of God, we cannot expect to honor that God with it….
