“Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word” (Psalm 119:9 KJV).
If our physical posterity could augment its spiritual dexterity, exactly what would that entail?
Food and drink were offered to idols throughout Old Testament history. “And they shall no more offer their sacrifices unto devils, after whom they have gone a whoring. This shall be a statute for ever unto them throughout their generations” (Leviticus 17:7). “And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab. And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods” (Numbers 25:1,2; cf. Revelation 2:14; cf. Revelation 2:20). “They sacrificed unto devils, not to God; to gods whom they knew not, to new gods that came newly up, whom your fathers feared not” (Deuteronomy 32:17). “Their sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another god: their drink offerings of blood will I not offer, nor take up their names into my lips” (Psalm 16:4). “Then said the LORD unto me, Go yet, love a woman beloved of her friend, yet an adulteress, according to the love of the LORD toward the children of Israel, who look to other gods, and love flagons of wine” (Hosea 3:1). These “flagons” are cakes, so “flagons of wine” are grape/raisin cakes.
An even more explicit account is: “Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them, neither make intercession to me: for I will not hear thee. Seest thou not what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem? The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger” (Jeremiah 7:16-18). Draw your attention to “cakes,” “the queen of heaven” (heathen mother goddess), and “drink offerings.” This is repeated in chapter 44, verses 15-25. In all these cases, the people of Israel knowingly anger the LORD with their idolatry by having intimate relations with someone other than Him their spiritual husband (Exodus 20:1-3; Deuteronomy 31:16-21; Jeremiah 31:32; Hosea 4:1-19).
Dear brethren, we need spiritual discernment to differentiate between genuine holy meals and counterfeit ones….
